Responsibilities:

Shell Energy North America (SENA) is seeking two senior long term North American Natural Gas (NG) supply analysts to become part of the five person long term NA Fundamentals team. One position will be based in Houston, with the other in Calgary. These positions will be responsible for developing medium (2 to 5 years) through long term (5 to 15+ years) views on the North American NG market. Within this scope, a prime focus will be projecting the impact of technology, basin characteristics, production efficiency and liquids make on NG supply and the consequent impact on NG prices. Such insights will be developed from a deep understanding of NG supply fundamentals encompassing but not limited to: technological advances, competitor activity, production cost forecasts, basin and well permit approvals, well type-curve prove outs, and Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) and Light Tight Oil(LTO) co-production. The individuals must build credibility with internal customers and partners, particularly within Upstream Americas (UA),such that foresight can be translated into commercial gain. The emphasis will be on developing both qualitatively and quantitatively advantaged capabilities, supported as appropriate by models, tools and techniques that yield high quality insight. Collaborating with peers in the Central Fundamentals team to build scalability in this respect is essential.

• Develop robust and quantified NG supply scenarios, inclusive regional breakouts, over the timeframes of interest. Identify and evaluate the implications of major trends and developments.
• Project the interactions between NG,NGLs and LTOs at both the macro (North America wide) and micro (basin, basis) levels.
• Develop network within UA Onshore Gas, Projects & Technology (P&T),Shell Trading, and external view vendors (CERA/PIRA/WoodMac) to deepen data sources, timeliness of intelligence and sensitivity to divergent perspectives.
• Be able to logically, clearly, and as necessary, provocatively, articulate views to the customer base. Afford decision executives the opportunity for informed, structured dialogue and interrogation of scenarios.
• Develop tools to enhance the quality of input to the long term NG pricing model (GPCM).
• Monitor the regulatory and technology landscape to identify early developments that could impact long term supply potential (eg: hydraulic fracturing advances or regulatory shifts).
• Balance quantitative and qualitative approaches to market foresight; ensure intuitive perspectives are developed along with rigorous modeling.
• Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and continuous competence improvement. Pursue collaboration and creativity within and between the near and long term fundamentals teams.



Requirements:

• Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Mathematics/ Economics/ Geology. A PhD/ D.Sc in Engineering/ Geology/ Other Quantitative Fields is preferred.
• Minimum 5 (five) of years of natural gas supply modeling experience.
• Minimum 5 (five) of years of experience in North America NG Supply Fundamentals work; competence in NGL and LTO production and associated Supply-Demand balance characteristics will be viewed as a distinct plus.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Must be able to develop Fundamental views translatable into actionable commercial insights
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships at multiple levels and across teams.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to filter multiple perspectives for commercially actionable intelligence
• Demonstrated Upstream experience through Reservoir Engineering and/or Production Technologists roles preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working on dynamic analytical teams focused on rapid and accurate creation of models, views, and custom applications is preferred.
