Advisor for Postgraduate education in International Health/Advisor Public health

KIT Health has an exciting offer for a job, composed of both educational activities (coordinating and facilitating Master's level courses), as well as working abroad in public health research, advisory and educational activities.
KIT Health aims to improve the health of people in low- and middle-income countries by research, advice and education. Our mission is to improve equity in health by empowering people and strengthening health systems. We work with partners in generating context-specific knowledge and building capacity at the interface of policy and practice. Key thematic areas of work are sexual and reproductive health & rights and health systems/ universal health coverage.
The education team within the Health Unit focuses on postgraduate education in the areas of public and international health, including the NTC (Netherlands Tropical Course) as well as the Master's in Public Health and in International Health. Courses are organized both in Amsterdam and abroad with partner organizations. Advisory work with partner institutes, training needs assessments, curriculum development, planning and organization and quality assurance of training are all part of our work portfolio. To strengthen our Health Unit and the education team, we are looking for an:
Advisor for Postgraduate education in International Health/Advisor Public health
(for an average of 38 hours per week. The position will be about halftime working in educational activities, halftime working in and for projects abroad)
Main responsibilities
  1. Develop, implement and evaluate post-graduate education programmes in International/ Public Health, in collaboration with partners abroad
    1. Coordinate training programmes at the institute
    2. Develop and teach selected sessions, guide students, mark exams
  2. Carry out advisory, research and project implementation assignments in projects in LMIC, document lessons learnt and publish results
  3. Pro-active acquisition and writing of proposals
  4. Building and maintaining networks and relations with partners
Additional Information
Appointment is initially one year, after good performance a contract for longer duration can be offered.
We ask
  • Relevant academic degree such as social sciences, nutrition, health management (para)medical background with at least minimal a postgraduate Master's degree in Public or International health, Social Sciences, Health Education or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of recent and relevant working experience in at least 2 low-middle income countries
  • As part of the 5 year experience: minimum 3 years of working experience in a teaching/training position or/and in Curriculum Development in the area of international public health
  • Proven track record in acquiring new projects
  • Experience in fragile states countries and/ or working with the private sector
  • Experience with e-learning or blended learning will be considered as an advantage
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with (inter)national NGOs and donor organizations is an added advantage
  • Good organization, communication and presentation skills
  • Team player and a results oriented attitude
  • Availability and willingness to travel abroad regularly
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English and French, Arabic or Portuguese is an added advantage.
We offer
The salary based on age, qualifications and experience is between EU2.605,- and EU4.129,- gross per month for a 38 hour working week. In addition there is an 8% holiday allowance and admission to the KIT pension fund (ABP).
