WEB DEVELOPER AND MANAGER, ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS

The Atlantic Council seeks a visionary Internet entrepreneur to oversee the transition to a next generation website for a dynamic and fast-paced Washington think tank and provide ongoing development and management thereafter. The Web Developer and Manager for Online Communications will play a central role in shaping the Council’s online brand.

The Council’s site has seen a 35-fold increase since its relaunch three years ago and generates over 10 million annual pageviews. We envision the next iteration to expand our reach by more fully integrating live streaming, podcasting, and social media and increased customization for our growing number of stakeholders and be optimized across platforms including computers, smart phones, and pad devices. The Web Developer will identify emerging technologies and ensure that the site remains on the cutting edge.

This person will oversee day-to-day relations with an outside development team and oversee the daily technical operation of the existing site and the follow-on version. The position requires technological savvy, strong administrative skills, and an ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. The Council seeks an individual who understands and values the mission of the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and modernize the Council’s online presence working closely with Council leadership and stakeholders
  • Work closely with external development team to both develop detailed specification documents with clear project deliverables and timelines, and to ensure timely completion of deliverables
  • Determine appropriate architecture and other technical solutions, and make relevant recommendations
  • Communicate to the Managing Editor and Council leadership with efficiency and accuracy any progress and/or delays
  • Install and customize plugins, modules, and similar technical solutions to Council and program/center issues
  • Optimize the site for search engine and social media traffic
  • Continue to innovate the Council’s online communications and branding


Qualifications


  • Self-starter with strong self-management skills
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • BS in computer science or a related field, or significant equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience with HTML/XHTML and CSS
  • Proficiency with LAMP systems
  • Familiarity with Drupal, WordPress, and Joomla content management systems
  • Competency with PhotoShop, InDesign, and similar software
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Background and interest in international affairs
