UNDP Water & Ocean Governance Programme Consultant

The UNDP Water & Ocean Governance Programme (BDP/EEG/WOGP) requires demand-based part-time support in the areas of outreach, advocacy, research, and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide demand-based support in the areas of outreach, advocacy, research, and reporting::
  • Coordinate preparation and publication of Water & Ocean Governance Programme, print and on-line materials (e.g., 2012 UNDP/GEF Catalyzing Ocean Finance, UNDP/GEF 2012 International Waters Delivering Results, LME Sustainability during Climate Change, etc.) for dissemination generally and at special events and conferences such as World Water Forum 2012, Rio Earth Summit 2012, Stockholm World Water Week 2012, etc.;
  • Identify and screen qualified designers and printers for publications, manage competitive procurement processes following UNDP procedures;
  • Ensure vendors paid in timely manner upon completion of deliverables;
  • Provide assistance in preparing and editing other materials for events, publications and website as needed; assist in other WOGP outreach and communications activities;
  • Support maintenance and updating of WOGP web space;
  • Support and coordinate UNDP outreach activities/events for World Water Day and World Oceans Day 2012;
  • Preparation and organization support for Water & Ocean Governance Programme special events and conferences;
  • Maintain and update UNDP water and ocean portfolio database.
  • Provide logistic and administrative support for annual meetings of UN-Oceans held at HQ.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced degree in environment, water resources or development-related field(s)

Experience:

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • Good knowledge of UNDP policies and procedures, including procurement
  • Experience working with member agencies of UN-Water and other UNDP Water & Ocean Governance partner organizations
  • Experience organizing media and related awareness raising events in the metro-NY area
  • Highly organized with the ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines

Language:

  • Fluent in English language; skills in other UN languages a plus but not required
