Translator, P-3 United Nations Support Mission in Libya

Responsibilities
The Translator reports to the Chief of the Language Unit. The Translator will undertake the following duties: Translates, subject to revision, from Arabic into English and vice versa documents covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, i.e, political, legal, humanitarian, financial, administrative and technical, ensuring that all deadlines are met and the quality of translation is adequate; Provides accurate and complete high quality consecutive interpretation into Arabic from English, or from Arabic into English, as and when the need arises. This includes interpreting during meetings with high-ranking officials, press events and conferences; Identifies new terminology material and submits it for consideration of the revisers; May supervise the work of a small group of interpreters/translators; Performs other functions as may be required by the Chief of the Language Unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in translation/interpretation or other related area. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years experience in the interpretation and translation fields; experience in simultaneous interpretation is an asset.

Languages
Languages required for this post are Arabic and English (interpretations are done from Arabic into English and from English into Arabic). A thorough command of both languages is required
