Designs, analyzes, develops, modifies and evaluates materials, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging. Conducts feasibility, design margin and validation analysis and empirical testing on new and modified designs. Leads and/or assists in architecture development and assessment. Evaluates reliability of materials, properties, designs, and techniques used in production. May direct support personnel and/or partner organizations in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, prototype fabrication, and production tooling.
Responsibilities
  • Designs engineering solutions for mechanical and thermal hardware, electronics enclosures, and production tooling based on established engineering principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.
  • Develops and implements parameters and test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability, developing fan curves, system power measurements & acoustics.
  • Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution
  • Leads a project team of other mechanical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for moderately-complex products.
  • Represents the mechanical/thermal team for all phases of larger and more-complex development projects.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:
Typically a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree and a minimum of 8-10 years experience in notebook/Slate/Handheld system design.

Program Management
· You are responsible for delivering (on time and in volume - no stop ships) the most robust and reliable design possible for the project assigned
· Working with the program team, ensure the right tradeoffs are made throughout the
development process to deliver on this
· Any issue that will impact the quality, reliability or schedule of the platform assigned needs to be escalated and worked to resolution (no surprises / no compromises)
· Manage platform and feature cost effectively; make tradeoffs that balance TCE, cost and market competitiveness
ODM & Supplier Management
· You are responsible for managing the ODM and supplier base to the extent that HP platform
requirements (POR, quality, reliability, feature set,ID, etc.) are being achieved
· Will need very strong technical background and 3D/2D drawing ability that can fully involved and lead the design with sub-supplier or ODM.
· Any issue with the ODM or supplier base that is not being resolved in a timely manner needs to be escalated immediately (no surprises / no compromises)

· Ensure cross platform and reference design efforts are consistently implemented by the ODM
and supplier base
Design & Innovation
· The commercial ME team will be known for delivering world class design and innovation. To that end you are responsible for delivering uncompromising design quality for the platform
assigned
· Working with the program team, ensure the right tradeoffs are made throughout the
development process to deliver on this
· Work with ID to develop and deliver achievable form factors and features. Low yielding, high cost designs and cosmetics are not acceptable
Quality & Reliability
· You are accountable for the quality and reliability, including perceived quality and reliability, for the platform assigned.This goes beyond SVTP. Ensure the right tradeoffs are made throughout the development process to deliver on this
· All known platform issues are to be root caused and resolved by PV. Additionally, all SVTP
testing must be complete and passing before product launch
· Support the TCE team including 3LS, Sustaining and Early Warning and Prevention
requests/activities
· Aggressively support customer engagement events of any kind (3LS/escalations, conference
calls/email, Customer Installation Visits, etc).

Ethic
· The mechanical team will act as a team. You are expected to support and back-up your team
members wherever possible. This includes helping on issues resolution, attending all design
reviews and tear-downs, acting on behalf of while in Asia,etc.
· The mechanical team will also be known for the professional manner in the way it interacts
with and supports the organization. You will be held accountable for your conduct.
· You are expected to meet all directives in a timely manner. You will be accountable for meeting your commitments
Travel
This job require frequency travel that up to 50%-75% working days, it will require the
immediate travel between China/US/TWN to ensure we have timely response and well
management on supplier.
