Swaziland Communication Specialist

The MOH is leading a new project, MaxART: Maximizing ART for Better Health and Zero New HIV infections, in partnership with STOP AIDS NOW!, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), National Emergency Response Council on HIV/AIDS (NERCHA), Swaziland National Network of People Living with HIV (SWANNEPHA), Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS), Southern African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analyses (SACEMA), Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+), and the Centre for Global Health and Inequality (CGHI). This project is a comprehensive and cross-cutting project with a multi-faceted approach to strengthening the HIV testing, care, and treatment continuum, improving understanding of the realities of people living with HIV, and evaluating the whether or not scaling up earlier treatment holds an answer to improving health and survival of Swazis and to reducing new HIV infections. To support this project, the MaxART consortium is looking for a Communication Specialist who will be responsible for supporting all in-country communications around the MaxART Project and will act as a liason (advisor) for international communications.

Responsibilities: 1. Support the development and implementation of the in-country communication and messaging strategy. •Support all in-country partners of the MaxART Project with development of in-country communication materials in support of community mobilization and other project activities, including those targeted at specific groups such as men and adolescents •Advise the various stakeholders within the project on how they can improve the impact of their activities with the help of communications. •Liaise with the MOH and NERCHA communication departments around project messaging and approvals where needed. 2. Build relationships with multiple stakeholders, including press and media, Government bodies, partner organizations, etc. 3. Liaise with press & media to increase visibility of the programme. Manage public relations events and ensure accurate project coverage in national media. 4. Seize opportunities for in-country partners to increase visibility and the impact of the programme at the country level. 5. Act as a link between in-country communications and corporate or international communication. •Liaise communication strategy between in-country and international MaxART partners, ensuring consistent messaging. •Provide input for international press releases, knowledge products, testimonials, etc. •Comply with parent organization publicity and approval requirements.

Qualifications: •Relevant education in communications, public relations, linguistics, journalism, or related field •At least 4 years of experience in an all-around communications position including 1-2 years of experience within the health sector •Strategic communication specialist with hands-on and rapid results mentality •Proven writing skills, in a variety of styles for different audiences •Thorough knowledge of the procedures involved in the planning and production of publications and electronic materials (print, audio-visual, and online) •Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work •In-depth knowledge of the media environment, audiences, and communication channels in Swaziland •Good networker with the ability to build strong relationships with the press & media in a short period of time; •Proactive, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented •Persuasiveness and good advocacy skills •Fluency in English, and strong editing and proofreading skills; good working knowledge of SiSwati, both spoken and written •Adept at using computer applications, such as, Microsoft Office, (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); facility with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is desirable
