Supervisor, Blasting (Rio Tinto Minerals)

Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM), part of the Rio Tinto group, has an immediate opening for a Supervisor, Blasting based in Boron, California. The position is located on-site at our Boron Operations site.
The individual is responsible for developing, directing, and coordinating mining activities in accordance with the mine plan and business needs to achieve delivery of ore at a quality and tonnage to meet internal customer demands. Responsible for the maintenance and continues improvement of workplace safety, enforcement of company policies and ensuring that work is performed efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities include:
  • Health, Safety and Environmental of employees: Insuring that rules and regulations and standards are analyzed, understood, communicated, Training is documented, Implemented and enforced. Creating and promoting environments for improvements like SS cultures and dust mitigation that people what to do better.
  • Mining activities: Insuring that the mine plan is communicated and implemented. Developing and directing others on the right tool and the right person for the job.
  • Communication with internal customers for their needs and ways for us to improve and service their needs and the needs of the business. Delivering communication to Supervisors and mining crews of our business performance needs and directions.
  • Cost & Efficiencies Review of mining efficiencies, costs, resources i.e. Equipment, staffing needs, project work needed. Recommendations for cost efficiencies, Implementation, enforcement, recording and reporting budget responsibilities of 15 million to 50 million.
  • HR Issues: Insuring the development of employees and communication of purpose to insure that we have the proper resources for staffing and mining. CBA Issues working with Supervisors & work force understanding of the CBA, Implementation, Enforcement, Grievance settlement, Arbitrations, Local and Federal laws.
  • Continues Improvement & Sustainability: Promoting collaboration with IPT incentives like operate for reliability and asset management. Implementation of new process like Lean sigma visual boards and development of dust mitigation planning for the Mining process. Promoting grow with our Supervisors and work force with tools like organizational effectiveness.
  • Adhere to and site-wide support Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality compliance standards.
College/University Education:
  • High School Diploma required, College degree preferred.
Qualifications:
  • Position requires 3 to 5 years of progressive responsible and experience in mining and leadership.
  • 3-5 years capabilities & compatibilities and functions and efficiencies of multiples of mining equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding information generated from modular mining systems or related GPs equipment.
  • The abilities to coordinate and staff multiply schedules.
  • Proven ability to lead others.
  • Superior verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create momentum and foster organizational change.
  • Interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills.

Additional Technical skill requirements:

  • Understandings of policies, procedures, laws associated with working with large numbers of people involved in organized labor.
  • Knowledge in MSHA & Cal OSHA Environmental and Health.
  • Have knowledge of plant and mine operations with specific knowledge of the documentation control in relation to ISO 900-1 and 14001.
  • Blasting license, or able to acquire within six months.
