STAP-COUNTRY DIRECTOR PORT AU PRINCE, HAITI

CARE is seeking a seasoned Country Director to assume a highly challenging and rewarding position, playing the lead role in transforming and overseeing CARE’s operations in Haiti.
Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, CARE Haiti has launched a substantial response including immediate relief, transition, and longer-term recovery. The response to the earthquake has required a fundamental rethinking of the country office’s programming in Haiti, including new program and geographic areas, new areas of policy and advocacy, new partnerships, and a significant increase in the overall scope of CARE’s work in the country.
At the same time, the underlying causes of poverty and social injustice in the country remain just as relevant as before the earthquake and they are central to framing the roles CARE had begun to assume and will play going forward, in Haiti itself and beyond its borders. The Country Director’s role and responsibilities for guiding the country team and managing its much expanded operations is critical to maximizing CARE’s overall impact on poverty, social justice and vulnerability of the country’s population.
Specifically, the CD will:
  • Coordinate the work of the CARE Haiti leadership team to further develop transition, recovery and long term development program strategies;
  • Ensure that all CARE programs in Haiti incorporate gender, disaster risk reduction, governance and accountability approaches;
  • Work with CARE staff and partners from around the world to develop and implement humanitarian and development policy and advocacy, including engaging with senior level policy makers;
  • Promote innovation, learning and knowledge sharing;
  • Promote effective teamwork and partnership, both within the organization and externally;
  • Ensure staffing and talent management processes are functioning, and provide coaching support to direct reports;
  • Establish effective management and support structures and systems for a complex, integrated and growing program to ensure effective management of financial and other resources, compliance with policies and regulations, and staff safety and security;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with entities of the Government of Haiti, donors, partners, and CI members, and serve as a spokesperson with the media.
Requirements:
  • Proven track record and experience leading large and complex humanitarian and development programs;
  • Excellent leadership, management, representation, teamwork & interpersonal skills;
  • Fluency in Frency (or Creole) and English languages.
