Software Engineer - Product Management Systems Abcam Plc

Abcam is a world-leading provider of protein detection reagents with its head office in Cambridge, UK and other offices in the UK, US, Japan and Hong Kong. We are seeking a talented, self-motivated and enthusiastic Software Engineer to join our agile software development team. You will support an exciting vision to develop cutting edge, service-orientated product management systems to support the rapid growth of our dynamic, market-leading business. In return you will be exposed to the latest technologies, methodologies and techniques in software development.

You will thrive within a team of talented developers and testers using agile project methodologies such as SCRUM and DSDM on a cutting edge ASP.NET MVC C#4.0 e-commerce platform. Iteratively delivering best-in-class systems focused on end-user experience ought to be your aspiration.

Being a first-rate communicator, your ability to work across functions to deliver and manage project teams will be crucial; especially when tasked with gathering requirements from your colleagues, agreeing your interface designs, then implementing those requirements whilst working alongside our QA team. The key stakeholders will be excited as you pro-actively inform them of your good progress and you will be adapting your plan to incorporate their valued feedback. Supporting our dynamic company vision, you will be amenable to commercial influences. You will also be actively supporting and aiding in the replacement of our legacy ColdFusion systems using intelligent migration strategies to perform a seamless transition.

Your solid knowledge of SQL (ideally Microsoft SQL Server 2008) allows you to create powerful applications that can manipulate rich data for over 100,000 products. Using SQL best practices and optimisation techniques, you are able to deliver high-performance and feature rich systems whilst being able to scale for the future.

Having a minimum of 4 years of commercial web software development experience (using HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery and AJAX) and a specialty in ASP.NET C#, you will be ready to immediately participate in our project pipeline. Alternatively you might have experience of Java, with an appetite to learn Microsoft C# 4.0 in a short space of time. You will be supported by a degree from a computing, science or math background and able to demonstrate your aptitude in programming and the areas outlined above.

Our culture is one that empowers individuals, with responsibility given at an early stage. We place great emphasis on knowledge and experience. The working environment is fun but intense, with everybody working together as a team to deliver great service and the best online experience to our customers. You can unwind in with a game of table football in our games room or join in with our regular selection of social activities after a productive day. In addition to competitive salaries we can offer you an attractive flexible benefits package which includes a profit-share scheme and share options.
