The advertised positions are for the Burnstone Mine, situated 80km south of Johannesburg, close to the town of Balfour. Burnstone Mine will be built on modern infrastructure to service mining activities, using specialised equipment and technology to enhance safe production over the life of the mine (which will exceed 19 years as part of Phase 1 of the project). Remuneration will be competitive and future increases will be performance based.

RISK FACILITATOR


Taking cognisance of applicable legislation and best practice principles, you will be focused on performing daily risk-related functions as required by the operation, in a responsible manner, with quality and quantity of work as priority. Your responsibilities will include providing administrative and technical support to the Chief Safety Officer, partnering with line departments to conduct risk assessments and conducting periodic reviews of the SOPs and COPs. Your assistance will be necessary to frontline supervisors and staff conducting risk assessments, and you will facilitate coaching sessions with frontline supervisors and staff on risk assessments/management. In addition, you will facilitate risk assessment and management training to trainees at the People Development Centre. Besides drafting reports, compiling graphs and updating risk-related data, you will assist with the drafting of new standards and procedures, and will implement a document control system and GBG SMS.


The qualifications you will need here are a Grade 12, COMSOC 1 and 2 and a Diploma in Risk Assessment (or progress towards one), while a National Diploma in Safety Management would be advantageous. In addition, you should possess at least 3 years’ safety experience and 5 years in mining. Computer literacy (with a diploma/certificate) is essential, as are excellent communication skills (reading and writing), leadership capabilities, the ability to draw visios and auditing skills.
