Last Date: 31 January, 2012

About Us:
The Global Development Network (GDN) is an independent International Organization that allies researchers and institutes in development globally. Founded in 1999, GDN is headquartered in New Delhi, with offices in Cairo and Washington DC. GDN supports researchers in developing and transition countries to generate and share applied social science research to advance social and economic development. GDN’s core business is building research capacity. Its aspiration is to achieve a critical mass of researchers who are globally interconnected and produce good research to impact public policy. GDN works in collaboration with 11 Regional Network Partners as well as with international donor organizations and governments, research institutes, academic institutions, think tanks and more than 11,000 individual researchers worldwide. GDN’s Global Research Capacity Building Program helps social scientists in developing and transition countries develop a mix of the skills and knowledge required to become a high-performing researcher. This integrated program includes the Regional Research Competitions, the new Global Research Competition and the Global Research Projects. The Global Research Capacity Building Program is complemented and supported by a range of networking, outreach and dissemination activities.
About the Competition:
One of GDN’s biggest annual activities is the Global Development Awards and Medals Competition - an innovative award scheme supported by the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan and other donors, that encourages original research coming out of developing and transition economies. Nearly 7,000 researchers and development practitioners representing more than 100 countries throughout the developing world have participated to-date. Since its inception in 2000, GDN has awarded roughly US$ 2.2 million in research and travel grants to finalists and winners. Winners are chosen by an eminent jury at the final event. This event is also GDN’s Annual Conference, with an audience of over 500 practitioners in the field of development to whom the finalists present. This year, the 13th Annual Global Development Conference will be held in Budapest, Hungary in June 2012.
