Position Reports to:
  • Manager Rail
Primary Purpose of Position:
  • Project management of a range of rail consultancy services to SMEC’s clients
Key Responsibilities:
  • Project manage the delivery of consultancy services to SMEC’s rail clients including:
    o Feasibility and concept design
    o Detailed design and documentation
    o Procurement advise
    o Site support services
    o Investigations and other advisory services as required
  • Responsible for the commercial and business management of services to SMEC’s rail clients
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining SMEC’s rail project management capability
  • Assist in project management leadership of services to SMEC’s rail clients
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining standards, procedures etc for services to SMEC’s rail clients
  • Ensure the quality, consistency and timeliness of deliverables to SMEC’s rail clients
  • Assist in raising and maintaining SMEC’s profile in the industry for the delivery of rail services
  • Significant contribution in business development, proposals and tendering
  • Strictly adhere to SMEC’s Business Management System (BMS)

Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Appropriate engineering degree/higher degree from accredited university/college
  • Minimum 4 plus (project manager), 8 plus (senior project manager) and 12 plus (principal project manager) years experience in rail with a preference for experience in the delivery of consultancy rail services
  • Track record in delivering rail services on time, on budget and to the satisfaction of the client
  • Track record in delivering technical services within a commercial and business environment
  • Experience in project management within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Some experience in project management leadership and mentoring
  • Some experience in developing and/or managing a rail project management capability
  • Track record in business development, proposals and tendering
  • Good client relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
