VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT : PUBLIC INFORMATION ASSISTANT (AMISOM-05/2011)

1. POST:

Job Title: Public Information Assistant

Grade: GSA5

Supervisor: Public Information Officer

Department: Peace and Security Directorate

Duty Station: Mogadishu,SOMALIA

2. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Public Information Officer, you will be responsible for the following duties:

· Providing office support services such as drafting routine correspondences and the follow-up on action deadlines of activities;

· Assist in carrying out the inventory of the office equipment and assets;

· Assist in the preparation of documentation for distribution to the various offices and organisations;

· Assisting the Administration and Finance departments in respect of travel and accommodation arrangements;

· Coordinating with Finance regarding theper-diem and reimbursement of travel expenses;

· Coordinating with Administration on travel authorization and other related documentation;

· Support the preparation and conduct of press briefings;

  • Assist in the organisation and arrangement for media contacts, briefings and interviews;
  • Perform any other duties as directed by supervisor.

3. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED:

Candidates must have a minimum of College Diploma in communications, journalism,public relations or other related fields.

  1. WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Candidates must have at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in journalism,communications, public relations or related fields; international experience desirable.

  1. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

· Ability to work closely with governments, NGOs and multi-lateral institutions in complex political affairs, peace and security undertakings.

· Computer literate and well versed in the use of the Internet, Power Point, Excel and Word.

· Excellent,negotiating, analytical and communication skills.

· Ability to work in a multicultural setting.

· Must be prepared to work in a hardship context and highly pressurised and sometimes hazardous environment.

6. AGE REQUIREMENT:

Candidates must preferably be between 25 to 35years old.

  1. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT :

Proficiency in at least one of the African Union working languages (Arabic, English, Frenchand Portuguese). Knowledge of other working languages would be an added advantage.

The appointment shall be for an initial period of one (1)year, the first three (3) months of which shall be on probation. It shall be renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.

The salary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US$ 46,264.16 inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff.
