Professor in Energy Technologies

Make an impact and lead on the development of research in technologies to provide cleaner fossil energy solutions to meet the growing global energy demand. An academic with international standing is sought to take the lead for the Energy Technologies of the International Doctoral Innovation Centre, a major partnership between the University of Nottingham (China and UK), Ningbo Science & Technology Bureau and Ningbo Education Bureau to educate and develop 100 leading talents in both energy and digital technologies through a pioneering cross-campus international doctoral training centre. They will instigate successful research partnerships with industry and will participate in the Energy Technologies Research Institute (http://www.energy.nottingham.ac.uk).

The appointment will be based in the Division of Engineering at Ningbo Campus, a centre of internationally-leading research that has a reputation for excellence in engineering.

Ningbo is located only 2½ hours from Shanghai by car. It is a relatively high-income city for China, with a per capita income (PPP basis) of about US $12,000. Ningbo has one of China’s largest deep-water ports, a modern airport with excellent connections to cities such as Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei and high-speed rail connections to other major cities in China. It has international schools, excellent shopping facilities and an attractive multicultural nightlife. It also has many rivers, lakes and mountains in the outskirts and is considered to be one of the cities in China which has the best quality of life.

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline such as a physical science (Chemistry, Physics , Mathematics, chemical and mechanical engineering, materials) and have a proven research track record in fossil energy research that will compass, cleaner coal technologies, CO2 capture, oil and gas processing, gas to liquids and hydrocarbon conversion processes. Excellent English communication skills are essential together with strong teaching abilities. Candidates are also expected to have demonstrated an ability to conduct high-quality research and attract research funding.

This post is available from 1 August 2012 (or earlier subject to mutual agreement) and will initially be offered on a fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of up to seven years. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
