The successor to the Bulgarian-American Enterprise Fund, the $400 million grant-making foundation assists in building and strengthening a vibrant market economy and democratic society in Bulgaria. A centerpiece of strong, long-term positive relations between Bulgaria and the United States, ABF embodies the highest standards of US core values and enhances the longstanding legacy of goodwill and friendship between the American and Bulgarian people. The Foundation’s grants support programs in six core areas of interest (AOIs), which are: Arts and Culture; Agriculture and the Environment; Civil Society and Democratic Institutions; the Economically Disadvantaged; Education and Libraries; and Heritage Tourism.

The President serves as Chief Executive Officer of the foundation with primary responsibility for establishing the ABF strategy, culture and reputation and for developing, managing and measuring programs in the foundation’s AOIs. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, highly credible leader who has shown progressive administrative responsibility throughout his/her career and has demonstrable success in previous leadership roles. The President will have strong business skills and financial acumen, management experience and international experience. Full-time residence in Bulgaria is desirable, but not required. At least half time should be “in country” utilizing a foundation-supplied apartment. U.S. citizenship is required.
