About the Position:

The Internet Society (ISOC) is seeking a qualified individual to assist in building and implementing the Society’s Public Policy activities.

The successful applicant will play a central role in fulfilling ISOC’s Public Policy goals by expanding and maintaining ISOC’s engagement with international inter-governmental, non-governmental and civil society organizations whose mandate and activities impact on the continued growth of the open and accessible Internet. Acting at the intersection of policy, technology and education, the Policy Advisor will also play a critical role in developing and advocating ISOC’s Internet-related Public Policy positions.

This is a newly added full-time position reporting to the Vice President of Public Policy and intended to be located in ISOC’s Geneva, Switzerland office.

This position requires a professional, who is politically sensitive, can demonstrate excellent organizational skills, skilled in messaging and relationship building, consensus-oriented, and self-motivated.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to elaborating and presenting ISOC’s Public Positions on a range of Internet-related policy and technical issues (e.g. Cyber security, on-line Privacy, etc.)

• Contribute to the coordination of ISOC delegations when participating in inter-governmental organizations’ events and activities (ITU, OECD, WIPO, etc.)

• Participate in the negotiation of MoUs and the construction of partnerships with international organizations (inter-governmental, business, civil society) in a view to leverage ISOC’s various departments’ initiatives


Desired Qualifications:

• Master-level qualification in International Relations or related field. Additional qualification in Information Sciences or Technology would be an asset.

• 1-3 years experience in working with international inter-governmental and/or corporate organizations would be an asset.

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English is a must. Proficiency in at least one additional language is desirable.

• Proficiency with Internet-based communication and work tools and working in active on-line communication environments.

• Willingness and ability to travel extensively.

Compensation for this position will be competitively commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualification and includes full benefits and a variable incentive plan component. Applicants are encouraged to read ISOC's 2012-2014 Business Plan.
