Media Relations Officer: Communications and Marketing Division

Purpose

Under the guidance of the Marketing and Communication Director is to, develop and implement a media engagement strategy and plan aimed at enhancing media coverage and media image of the University, ensure that a media engagement infrastructure and system that will make it easy to source information and images internally for and disseminate to the media is established and maintained and act as the contact point for media enquiries and assist internal stakeholders in dealing and successfully with the media.


Requirements

A 3 year Degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Communications or Marketing with at least 2 years relevant experience in a similar position.

OR

Matric plus 5 years relevant experience in a similar position.

  • Previous experience in media management, corporate communications.

  • A working knowledge of media relations, media management, or corporate communication.

  • Previous experience in dealing with the Media and securing editorial space in a range of publications

  • Previous experience in working with budgets or sections of a budget
