VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:LOGISTICS OFFICER (AMISOM-03/2011)

Department: Peace and Security Directorate

Duty Station: Mogadishu, Somalia

2. JOBPURPOSE:

To assist in the provision of logistics and integrated support which includes the distribution of mission assets (vehicles, computers, stationery, bulk supplies of water, fuel products and foodstuffs).

  1. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

· Provide advice on logistical support to the mission

· Prepare logistics and support plans, deployment timelines and budget requirements for the mission;

· Ensure the development of contingency plans for draw down and liquidation of mission;

· Prepare contingency plans and logistics preparedness reviews;

· Provide medium- and long-term planning capacity for logistics support;

· Monitor, assess and keep senior management informed of the quality, efficiency and timeliness of logistical operations;

· Interpret and analyse periodic management reports, to include Verification Reports, and other relevant information contained in the section's information management applications;

· Follow up on decisions taken;

· Supervise the reception and analysis of requests for logistical support;

· Monitor delivery of goods and/or services to the mission and assess quality;

· Prepare technical reports and briefings; make informal and formal oral presentations

· Perfor many other duties as directed by supervisor(s)

  1. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Candidates must have a minimum of Master’sUniversity Degree in business administration, supply chain management,logistics operations/management orsimilar fields

  1. EXPERIENCE

Candidates must have at least 8 years of workexperience in a related field with Government, NGO, think tank, or similar multilateral, regional orinternational institution.

  1. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

· Abilityto work closely with governments, NGOs and multi-lateral institutions incomplex political affairs, peace and security undertakings

· Computerliterate and well versed in the use of the Internet, Power Point, Excel andWord

· Strong personal initiative and willingness to acceptresponsibility.

· Experience of work with the military/police desirable

· Exhibit basic comprehension of transportation, communications andinformation technology, engineering and medical services, and supply chainmanagement.

· Abilityto work in a multicultural setting

· Mustbe prepared to work in a hardship context and highly pressurized and sometimeshazardous environment

7. AGE REQUIREMENT:

Candidates must preferably be between 30 to45 years old.

  1. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT :

Proficiency in at least oneof the African Union working languages (Arabic, English, French andPortuguese). Knowledge of other working languages would be an added advantage.

The salary attached to theposition is an annual lump-sum of US$ 81,397.62inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff.
