Jhpiego Deputy Chief of Party

Deputy COP will work closely with the Chief of Party, who is responsible for the overall strategic direction and technical oversight for the MCHIP program. This includes providing managerial oversight and guidance to the program and working closely with technical, administrative and finance staff to ensure project resources such as human, financial and materials are applied appropriately. DCOP will also contribute to the overall strategy and management of the Jhpiego Country Office and may be required to undertake the responsibilities of that position on a temporary basis in the absence of the COP.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Technical Director and administrative units to ensure effective implementation and coordination of program activities and monitor progress toward the achievement of the program goals and objectives
  • Review work plans and supervise provincial level teams
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of activities in support of MCHIP program goals and objectives, including the determination of program priorities
  • Manage human resource matters in collaboration with the Chief of Party, the Country Director, the Director of Administration and Jhpiego HQ’s Director of Global Human Resources
  • Develop and modify as necessary project workplans and budget; review workplans and the budget monthly with the Chief of Party and Technical Director
  • In coordination with the Country Director, Chief of Party and Technical Director, cultivate strategic relationships with the MOH, USAID, other potential donors, private sector entities, global and regional institutions, and other stakeholders for the smooth implementation of project activities
  • Contribute to the analysis, synthesis and reporting of project outputs and results, working in close collaboration with the Chief of Party, Technical Director and Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor, and ensure incorporation of lessons learned into ongoing activity tasks
  • Coordinate all human, material and financial resources to ensure successful implementation of MCHIP activities
  • Coordinate the development and dissemination of materials related to the MCHIP project
  • Identify, and provide analyses of, in-country business development opportunities
  • Promote Jhpiego business development through relationships developed with in-country and regional partners, donors and the business community
  • Provide programmatic inputs to new proposals as needed
  • Work closely with the COP and Baltimore Headquarters on MCHIP costsharing requirements
  • Represent Jhpiego interests in public and professional circles through meetings, conferences and presentations
Required Qualifications:
  • Advannced degree in related field
  • 8+ years of mid- to senior-level experience implementing and managing complex public health programs
  • 2+ years in-country level experience
  • Demonstrated USAID experience with knowledge of USAID regulations and compliance
  • Proven leadership skills and expertise in the management of health programs and program staff
  • Experience coordinating program activities across provinces
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with in-country partners to implement program activities
  • Excellent verbal, written communications and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Fluent English and Portuguese or Spanish language skills
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally
