IT Assistant, Norwalk CT

PART TIME: 20 hours per week

GENERAL INFORMATION

TechnoServe is an international, non-profit economic development organization founded in 1968 out of a conviction that a vibrant private sector is an essential foundation for economic growth and poverty reduction. TechnoServe undertakes targeted, catalytic technical assistance and other programming to increase the competitiveness of entrepreneurs, businesses and industries that in-turn provide sustainable employment, inclusion of the poor and increased incomes. TechnoServe operates in 25 developing countries with over 1000 employees. A substantial portion of our work is in agriculture, enhancing farm productivity and commodity quality and addressing gaps in processing and other agribusiness capacities. Our programs increase smallholder access to new technologies, aggregation and storage mechanisms, markets, critical information and finance. TechnoServe also undertakes structured programs to identify and support high potential entrepreneurs in various sectors through leadership mentoring networks, formalization support, access to capital and development of sustainable business services such as accounting, finance, marketing and human resource management.


I. PRIMARY PURPOSE & FUNCTION

TechnoServe seeks a qualified entry level IT professional to support IT hardware and software in the TechnoServe Norwalk Connecticut office. They will need to discern the nature of technical issues and determine escalation paths of all technical problems in Norwalk. They will as well support the DC Network Administrator on IT issues and desktop/laptop issues of the broader organization.


II. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in the server, desktop & laptop support in the US offices;
• Using Helpdesk system track all technology issues worked;
• Troubleshoot server and network connectivity issues and escalate appropriately;
• Monitor and manage internet connections & wireless networks in Norwalk;
• Review, test & recommend hardware standards for the organization;
• Assist in the US IT inventory and purchasing process;
• Assist in the distribution of technology for US staff;
• Working with outside venders, manage Norwalk printers & fax maintenance as necessary;
• Other tasks as assigned by DC Network Administrator and the Director of ICT.

III. REQUIREMENTS


• An interest in supporting PC & MAC computers;
• Strong interest in technology;
• Strong customers service skills;
• Helpdesk experience a plus;
• High Proficiency in all MS operating systems required;
• Highly organized and able to juggle multiple tasks;
• Ability to work independently and enthusiastic self-starter;
• Interest in working a career in IT;
• Must be a quick learner and be able to adapt quickly.
