Internship: Program Assistant, World Congress ICLEI

The selected candidate will be part of the Capacity Center team that ICLEI maintains at the World Secretariat in Bonn, Germany.

Tasks

(1) Support the World Congress 2012 team, to be held from 14 to 18 June 2012 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil; in particular:

  • Support the program development by providing inputs, developing session descriptions and assist in the speakers' invitation and briefing phase
  • Be involved i n the screening and selection process of the congress contributions from I CL El Member cities, other local governments, partners and other ICLEI offices
  • Organize special congress elements with selected cities and partners panels, workshops and co-events by managing the related external communications and being responsible for the content development
  • Communicate with partners
  • Support partners and contributors by also using databases
  • Prepare communications, announcements, promotional materials
  • Support in editing and layouting the congress related publications
  • Edit congress web pages with focus on the program related webpages
  • Contribute to the Congress reporting activities at the event and after the congress
  • Be involved in editing the congress publication
  • Involvement in the post congress follow up
  • Support the general congress implementation

(2) Contribute to the work of the Capacity Center, including project development and acquisition.

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant subject such as Urban Planning & Management, Environmental Policy, Sustainable Development, International Relations, Climate Change and Local Development or similar;
  • Interest and previous experience in the areas of cities and local government, urban planning & management, environmental sustainability, climate change impacts and adaptation is an asset;
  • Organizing skills, organized working style, creative and pro-active attitude;
  • Good communication style, writing and orally;
  • Excellent editing and writing skills;
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office. Some databases, web editing experience (Typo3 or other CMS), desktop publishing software (preferably InDesign);
  • Language skills: Fluent English orally and in writing; further languages welcome, especially Portuguese, Spanish or French.
