AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 21 operations in 10 countries on four continents.m AGA employs over 63,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is the manager of the Tropicana Joint Venture with a 70% interest. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana Gold Mine represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.91 million ounces over a 10 year mine life. With construction having commenced in 2011, first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.

We are now seeking an experienced and driven Infrastructure Construction Manager (Civil) to join our Tropicana Gold Mine Construction Team.

Working for the Project Manager, this role is accountable for managing the EPCM contractor for the implementation, execution and construction of the project. It is also accountable for the delivery of the project within the nominated time, cost, quality, environmental and safety criteria. This role is based at the Tropicana site with a flexible FIFO roster.

The main tasks of the role include:

  • The managerial reporting relationship of the Infrastructure Construction Manager is to the Project Manager, and the role holder will work collaterally with the Project Manager's direct reports. (As per the organisation chart above).
  • The Infrastructure Construction Manager, as part of the Owners Team, supports the Project Manager to develop a project implementation plan consistent with the approved approach.
  • The Infrastructure Construction Manager ensures the quality of output of the EPCM, and the EPCM sub-consultants and contractors are in alignment with AGA, regulatory and contractual requirements. Ensure the technical competence of the EPCM site teams, in the delivery of the site activities, meet the requirements of AGA in accordance with the contract.
  • Ensure EPCM various procedures, work practices, plans and protocols meet AGA requirements and are of a high standard of work.
  • The Infrastructure Construction Manager ensures that the safety, environmental, community and industrial relations, quality plans and procedures are adhered to across the site.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in construction and technical competence in projects of similar scale and complexity is required.
  • A thorough understanding of construction regulatory/statutory and professional standards in WA is required. A proven track record in project infrastructure construction is required.
  • The role holder is likely to be a qualified civil engineer or a related field and have developed a career in infrastructure construction management.
  • The role holder will be accountable for ensuring all Site statutory requirements are complied with.

Australian experience on non-process infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.
