As part of Rio Tinto Alcan Primary Metal North America, the company's BC Operation is based in Kitimat, British Columbia and is one of the largest industrial complexes in the province. Employing about 1400 people and contributing more than $269 million annually to the provincial economy, the Kitimat based aluminum operation is poised for future growth.
Rio Tinto Alcan is seeking to fill the following role at our Kitimat, BC operations with a successful candidate who will reside in the Kitimat/Terrace area.
Under the direction of the Health and Safety Coordinator, the HSE Advisor is responsible for overseeing, developing, promoting, implementing and maintaining HSE Management Systems based on the integration and adaptation of recognized HSE Management Systems criteria. He/she will have to support Area Manager in supervisors' competencies development.
To qualify for this position the candidate must have:
  • A Bachelors Degree in a related field or equivalent education/experience
  • Experience working in the HSE field (5-8 years minimally preferred)
  • Experience working in mining, aluminium smelting, oil & gas, or heavy industry preferred
  • Knowledge and field practice of incident investigation, analysis and prevention
  • Knowledge of Provincial Health, Safety and Environmental standards and policies
