CARE is seeking an experienced Head of Food and Livelihoods Justice (FLJ) to provide leadership for technical staff in the sub-teams of Economic Development, Access Africa, Water, Gender and Food Security as well as climate change.
The FLJ team has an emphasis on working on root causes of food insecurity by tackling issues of food justice . Though nutrition is not in this group, nutrition programming continues in relation to this unit and there is a strong dotted line and cooperation expected from the nutrition sub-team and FJ&L.
The Head of FLJ will provide leadership for staff in fulfilling the mandate of Program, Partnerships, Learning & Advocacy (PPLA) in these areas and ensuring linkages and synergies between them. S/he will work with the team to ensure program standards and systems are in place and implemented and will also support business development and mobilization of additional financial resources. S/he will provide strategic leadership and vision for the team ensuring alignment with organizational principles and ways of working.
The Head of FLJ will develop a strategy and implement a plan of action that will allow each member unit to contribute to the PPLA mandate through:
1. Coordinating global knowledge and learning
2. Supporting development of partnerships, advocacy and fund raising
3. Providing technical guidance and leadership
4. Providing support to, integrate and align work with long-term programs of Country Offices and Regions
S/he will recognize that the FJL team is a new structure within CARE. A significant amount of time will need to be invested in team building and developing a common understanding of what food and livelihoods justice means within CARE and how we represent that to external audiences. S/he will also need to work collaboratively across CARE International to determine how CARE will position itself within a larger global food security and food justice movements

Required:
· 10 years of senior management/leadership experience with international agencies
· 10 years of experience in international programming in one of the key areas listed above
· Experience in team management
· Successful fundraising experience
· Planning for and oversight of large budgets
· Understanding and experience of large interdependent decentralized organization like CARE
· Management and Leadership
· Strategic Planning
· Familiarity with best practice in thematic areas
· Advanced communication and presentation skills
· Advanced relationship building skills
· Fundraising
· Excellent English language skills
· Computer skills
