The European Commission is looking to recruit a

Director (GRADE AD14) COM/2011/10322 for the Directorate-General Information Society and Media to be based in Brussels

With around 1200 people and an annual budget of €1.4 billion, the Information Society and Media Directorate-General is driving forward the Digital Agenda for Europe and promoting an open internal market for communication networks and services. In this pivotal position, you will formulate the Directorate’s strategy and policies, plan and execute the work programme and co-ordinate the activities of different units, whilst controlling significant budgets. At the same time, you will represent the European Commission at inter-institutional discussions and international forums, so you can expect an extremely high profile.

To take on this challenge, you should bring a very good understanding of information society policies, in particular regarding electronic communications, plus knowledge of EU guidelines concerning the single market, EU2020, competition and consumer protection. A strong agent of change, you will have shown strong achievements as a leader and manager, with a proven record in policy formulation or regulatory monitoring and enforcement at high-level positions. Finally, you must be a citizen of a Member State with a degree level education and thorough knowledge of one of our official languages, plus a reasonable command of a second.
