Community Advisor, APHIAplus project

PATH seeks to recruit a Community Advisor to serve as a member of a county-based project mentoring team and as such, work actively to ensure that all community-oriented project activities are well coordinated with efforts by service delivery and social determinants advisors. With technical support from the project’s senior technical advisors, the Community Advisor will coordinate the initiation of the MOH’s community unit activities, works to build the capacity of CBOs, ensures effective networking and referrals across project interventions and link these activities with other key stakeholders within the county. S/he will monitor all ongoing community activities to ensure that they are on schedule, and meet program quality criteria to yield expected results. This position will be based in either Nyanza or Western province.

The main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with the service delivery and social determinants advisors to ensure the integration and coordination of all available services at the community and households levels.
  • Work to develop and disseminate all tools, forms and job aides needed by CHWs and monitors community activities for issues of quality, efficiency, results, participation, and results.
  • Work to identify, subcontract and build capacity of CBOs, FBOs and other community groups to play role in project implementation and to address the needs of the community.
  • Where possible, ensure that MOH representatives join in monitoring activities.
Required Skills
  • Ability to translate complex concepts for lay audiences.
  • Knowledge of global HIV/AIDS and/or gender sexual and reproductive health issues; familiarity with the political environment of these fields a strong plus.
  • Good networking skills.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in public health, community development or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five years' direct experience in the areas of community development, health communication or a related area that demonstrates ability to train and facilitate groups, especially as it relates to health communication and community mobilization.
  • Direct experience working with community health volunteers
  • Experience working in complex teams.
  • Experience working diverse stakeholders at the community level.
