Communications Manager EDMA

Contract: Full-time, permanent position based in Brussels, Belgium
Purpose of job: To maximise the impact of EDMA communications by promoting positive and coherent messages about EDMA, its values and objectives.

To develop, draft and promote high-quality publications and other communication tools.

To manage EDMA media relations.
Reports to: Public Affairs & Communications Director
Key relationships: Internally – Public Affairs & Communications Director, Senior Management team and Secretariat staff.
Externally - media and other relevant stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1.1. Communications and Media relations: strategy and planning

  • Play a key role in the creation, development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy.
  • Develop media relations strategy to support strategic and communications objectives.
  • Maximise the media potential of EDMA activities and events by identifying new channels and opportunities to leverage key messages.
  • Proactively seek and develop opportunities for raising EDMA’s profile.

1.2. Media relations: Press office

  • Act as the first port of call for journalists' enquiries, providing interviews or briefing other EDMA representatives where appropriate.
  • Draft press releases, securing approval from the Public Affairs & Communications Director prior to their release.
  • In line with strategic policy objectives, develop EDMA position statements and Q&As on a variety of issues, liaising with our membership base and external partners where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with relevant press and broadcast media in order to enhance media coverage.
  • Effective issues management and crisis communication in coordination with Public Affairs & Communications Director to enhance and protect EDMA’s reputation.
  • Maintain and regularly update a database of media contacts.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of media relations and media coverage reporting, including the daily media monitoring and press analyses.

1.3. Key EDMA publications

  • Under the guidance of the Public Affairs & Communications Director, develop communications briefs and outlines for strategic EDMA publications, such as the annual report, etc., in consultation with other internal and external stakeholders.

1.4. EDMA website

  • Under the guidance of the Public Affairs & Communications Director, regular website updates in order to maintain powerful, up-to-date content. This will include the collection of stories, case studies, and visuals as well as drafting and editing of articles.
  • Manage internal input from other departments as well as external requests.
  • Be the main client contact for external contractors.

1.5. Other activities may include:

  • Event logistics management
  • Writing occasional publications, articles etc to disseminate key messages to target audiences and raise EDMA profile, as appropriate.
  • Revising/updating core EDMA publications as necessary.
  • Handling information enquiries from members and others, in conjunction with other EDMA staff.
  • Drafting presentations about EDMA to be delivered at external events and EDMA meetings, as appropriate.
  • Social media campaigns;

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum three years of work experience in a similar role, preferably in an industry association;
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) to communicate complex ideas and subjects simply;
  • Experience of devising pro-active communication strategies with the media;
  • Experience of contributing to the development and implementation of communication strategies for a range of audiences;
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills, ability to prioritise work to meet agreed deadlines;
  • Have a positive approach to problem solving and proven track record of achieving goals;
  • Be innovative and creative;
  • Experience of and ability to work collaboratively within a small team;
  • Ability to reconcile different points of view;
  • Be enthusiastic, self-motivated and outgoing with eexcellent interpersonal skills with an innate ability to form effective and constructive working relationships at all levels;
  • Fully computer literate.

This post is being offered on a permanent contract, subject to successful completion of a 6-month probationary period, assessed by performance review after this time in post.

The position is available immediately and remuneration will be according to experience. Further details will be provided during the interview.
