Clinical Research Fellow

MRC/TSB/GSK Clinical Research Fellowship

The Clinical Pharmacology Unit is pleased to offer a full time research Fellowship in the field of vascular inflammation and function. This position results from a prestigious programme awarded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB). The position will be based in the highly research active Clinical Pharmacology Unit in the University Department of Medicine, and there will be an opportunity to progress to a clinical PhD through a competitive process. Candidates must be fully registered with the GMC, and be intending to pursue a career in academic medicine. The post would be particularly suited to those training in Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine or Clinical Pharmacology.

The MRC/TSB award, held in conjunction with GlaxoSmithKline, focuses on identifying new biomarkers in COPD, and evaluating the efficacy of two novel compounds. The Fellow will be required learn a variety of cardiovascular techniques, centred on imaging, and run one of the components of the research programme. Training in these aspects, and the process of clinical research and drug discovery will be provided locally. It is envisaged that this experience will give the Fellow adequate knowledge to pursue further doctoral studies in a number of translational specialty opportunities. The post includes a clinical stipend equivalent of ST2 and above and is for 1 year in the first instance.
