Chief Executive Officer The European Spallation Source (ESS)

The European Spallation Source is a joint European project committed to the goal of collectively building and operating a world leading facility for research using neutrons by the second quarter of the 21st Century

The European Spallation Source (ESS) aims to be the brightest source of neutrons in the world for scientific research. By the end of this decade it will be delivering neutrons for science. ESS will open entirely new opportunities for researchers within a large number of fields of research. The results of research from ESS will be significant for future scientific and industrial progress.

ESS will be located in Lund and Copenhagen, co-hosted by both Sweden and Denmark and will be funded and operated by a partnership of European countries. ESS and our partners are currently engaged in a technical design review that will act as the blueprint for the construction of ESS to start in 2013 and to become operational in 2019.

The governing body of ESS, European Spallation Source ESS AB, is looking for a

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

to lead the realization of the 1,5 billion euro project and the inspiring vision for ESS

The CEO has the overall responsibility for European Spallation Source ESS AB. The overall goal is to develop ESS from the design level to reaching the functional, technical and scientific performance needed for the facility to be the world class of its kind. All within the specified budget envelope and the given time frame.
The CEO will manage the company and the organization and develop a team spirit that will secure the success of ESS through its highly multinational organization.

European Spallation Source ESS AB is looking for a highly skilled professional with a strong academic background, old enough to possess experience, authority and leadership and young enough to bring ESS into the operational phase. International management experience from developing and leading large and complex technical and politically influenced projects is needed to be successful in this very exciting and challenging position.
