Background / General description:
IFC is a member of World Bank Group and is one of the world's largest international sources of financing for private sector investment in development countries with a mandate to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. We finance and provide advice for private sector ventures and projects in developing countries in partnership with private investors and, through its advisory work, help governments create conditions that stimulate the flow of both domestic and foreign private savings and investment. Our particular focus is to promote economic development by encouraging the growth of productive enterprises and efficient capital markets in its member countries. IFC's China and Mongolia team is hiring an Associate Investment Officer (AIO) or an Investment Officer (IO) to be based in Chengdu, China. This will be a locally recruited position. AIOs/IOs are the project leaders of multidisciplinary teams and professionals who have expertise in the regions or sectors in which we do business. Project teams consist of lawyers, environmental and social specialists, and economists, as well as technical specialists. AIOs/IOs work directly with their clients and international and local sponsors. IFC is recruiting AIOs/IOs to identify business opportunities, execute transactions and actively manage portfolio projects. The incumbent will be a shared resource for Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services department, Global Financial Markets department and Infrastructure department.

Duties and Accountabilities:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, both new and existing ones, global and regional private businesses, banking and multilateral partners and government officials to further develop the sector and to develop specific investment opportunities.

• Develop a strong pipeline of good quality investment opportunities focusing on the frontier regions.

• Support the portfolio functions for clients based in frontier regions.

• Evaluate structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, rescheduling, capital increases, equity sales, etc.

• Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for straightforward transactions.

• Participate in negotiations; use negotiation skills to overcome impasses and finalize negotiations in straightforward transactions.

• Coordinate closely with social, environmental, and technical assistance colleagues in order to add value to our clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.

• Identify and evaluate opportunities to increase the social development impact of new or portfolio projects.

• Foster relationships with World Bank Group counterparts to identify collaboration opportunities and to enhance business delivery in China.

• Strengthen and maintain local government relationship.

• Explore investment and advisory services partnership.

• Participate in Beijing and Chengdu office’s activities.

Selection Criteria:
• MBA and 3- 5 years of relevant working experience in finance with a proven track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments;

• Knowledge of relevant industry sector trends, experience in emerging markets a plus;

• Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments (debt and equity);

• Business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on clients needs effectively;

• Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, of financial and technical partners as well as senior government officials;

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese;

• Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds;

• Ability to mentor junior investment staff;

• Highly motivated, committed to highest ethical standards;

• Genuine commitment to sustainable development; and

• Willingness to travel extensively and geographic flexibility.
