Purpose & general responsibilities of the position:



The position holder will act as team member in his/her assigned team, undertaking operational duties. It is also expected of the position holder that he/she will assist in small project tasks, either in the capacity of a team member or a leader leading the project. It is also expected that the position holder will be able to work independently on his/her own with little or no guidance. The position holder, in this respect, is expected to undertake tasks related to improvement operational efficiency. Where applicable, the position holder will be provided with the training needed to do the tasks expected.

Specific responsibilities of the position:

The position holder will be working as a team member in the team. Generally, he/she will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP) with regards to:
    • Acceptance and confirming bookings to vendors
    • Accurate carrier allocation
    • Good customer service level rendered to vendors
    • Timely Billing, FCR/HBL release
    • Timely documentation updates and dispatch
    • Optimal/maximizing container utilization rates

(Note: The position holder is expected to be familiar with SOP and is fully able to operate independently on his own (with little or no guidance) with regards to the assigned operational tasks.)

  • Project Assistance
o The position holder is expected to undertake project roles where applicable, either as team leader or leader leading the project.

  • Operations Management
    • The position holder is expected to develop his/her knowledge in operations
    • Where applicable, he/she is expected to undertake initiatives streamlining operations flow.

  • Additional roles within team
    • Depending on the team requirements, the position holder is expected to be able to take on one or more co-ordinating tasks. This varies from being a carrier allocation co-ordinator to acting as the team leader’s deputy. The position holder is expected to be able and willing to assist where possible.
Measurement / success criteria of the position:


The position holder will be mainly measured on the following objectives (subject to final review with team leader during his/her performance appraisal):

  • Core Culture
    • Live, drive and implement the Export Logistics Core Culture in all of its aspects with all staff in the General department. He is expected to take initiatives to increase understanding of the core culture and such is exhibited via the individual’s behaviours. He would be measured by an outline of the actions and initiatives taken demonstrating understanding and embodying our core culture throughout the year.

  • Operational Excellence
    • Deliver quality service to origin and destination customers (internal and external), by
- Optimal container utilisation
- Completely understanding and applying client specific SOP and IOP;
- Actively and proactively educating vendors and any parties necessary, on Damco’ shipping requirements;
- Efficiently using all systems and applications necessary (MODS, BST, Excel, etc.) to ensure operational efficiency;
- Communicating in an efficient and professional manner with all parties, special attention to be given to overnight replies (or acknowledgement) to overseas parties;
- Striving to always acquire more industry and client knowledge, to better assist any party requiring help/solutions.
    • Deliver “zero defect” operational performance by:
- Meeting team’s KPIs
- No complaints or claims issues

  • Local Business Development
    • Proactively contribute to the team reaching its budgeted local business income, by:
- Following the general branch and specific team strategy for local business sales;
- Proactively detecting the vendor’s business needs and making suggestions on how to cover these needs.
- Make efficient use of the selling tools provided and skills acquired, to actively and proactively sell local services.

  • Finance
- No Accounts Receivables outstanding of the charged accounts.
-Provide timely feedback to FIN and update right charge code in MODS
- Adhere to the guidelines in relation to finance policies.


  • Ad-hoc tasks/projects
    • Depending on the position holder’s operational knowledge, to assist his/her team leader with ad-hoc tasks and/or projects, either assigned by the team leader or by the individual’s own initiative. In this respect, the team-member should show:
- High adaptability to be able to undertake tasks on top of his/her assigned operational tasks;
- Demonstrate basic project management skills either as a leader leading the project or as an effective team member;
    • The position holder is expected to initiate projects that will improve his/her team’s operational performance and efficiency level. He/she will be appraised by an outline of actions taken related to this aspect.

  • English Proficiency Level
Damco places high emphasis on its staff’s English proficiency level. The individual should either have maintained or improve their current English grade. If the individual falls short of the English grade needed for the post, he/she should have outlined a list of visible actions demonstrating her motivation to raise her grade to the required English level.
