Assistant Scientist - Plant Breeding

Assist in evaluation of new rice varieties with various stakeholders through Participatory Varietal Selection (PVS) in three townships in the lower regions of the Ayeyarwady delta. Work closely with the breeder to oversee seed production and training activities, and actively team up with others in the project. The position will be located in Yezin, Myanmar.

Major accountabilities/Responsibilities
• Responsible for running of trials, maintenance and data gathering and analyses of research-managed PVS trials using tolerant range of rice varieties in three townships of the Ayeyarwady delta lower regions (Labutta, Bogale and Mawlamyinegyun) and at DAR station in Yezin.
• Assist in conducting large-scale farmer’s managed trials (baby trial) of farmer’s preferred varieties and in data gathering and processing.
• Assist in the seed production of farmers’ preferred varieties for distribution to target areas in collaboration with NGO partners, MAS and DAR
• Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor

Qualification requirements
• MS in Plant Breeding, Agronomy or related fields
• 4 years relevant crop science field research experience
• Good oral and written communication in English, must have excellent computer skills especially data encoding and analysis, spread sheets and graphic presentation; must have the ability to deal with research collaborators; could perform experiments with minimum supervision; must have supervisory skills, team player

Salary range is from 6,546 to 7,400 per annum paid in US dollars, commensurate to education and experience.
