Job Purpose

  • The Accountable Manager provides the collective leadership necessary to achieve the optimum use of capital equipment and staff resources within DHL Aviation for the management and further development of the airline as a service provider to the DHL Middle East group of companies that is commensurate with the highest possible level of Safety and Customer Service to DPWN.
  • The Accountable Manager is ultimately responsible for the day-to-day execution of all the operational and technical activities of DHL Aviation and ensures the Company complies with the standards required by the Bahrain and Saudi Civil Aviation Authorities and all relevant legislation when enacting the DPWN strategic plans in terms of time scales, economic results and safety.
  • He is responsible for the establishment of the set up and running of legal entities within the Middle East and subsequent negotiation with regulatory authorities for the obtaining of the necessary AOC and traffic rights for DHL.

Accountabilities

  • To develop an Airline that operates to all countries in the Middle East that provides the DHL Group with a significant cost and service advantage in comparison to all competitors within our peer group and that is commensurate with our current dominant market position in the Middle East.
  • To provide real time information, advice and recommendations to Area and Regional Management in order to assist in the consolidation of DHL’s position within the region and the profitable expansion of the airline.
  • To produce and deliver accurate and timely data and information to the Middle East Area Management team.
  • Ensuring he and his department is fully participating in DHL’s Quality Assurance and Safety Program
  • To coach/train staff to increase their knowledge of the DHL Aviation - Bahrain and associated DHL entities.
  • Emphasis shall be placed on the responsibility of all personnel to comply with the laws, regulations and procedures of the state where operations are conducted and with the DHL internal policies and procedures.

Process

  • Problem solving in this function is often complex and is related to the management of conflicting levels of priorities and expectation between internal and external parties.
  • Maximising DHL’s position, in a selective controlled manner, supporting DHL’s core business and yet being perceived as neutral by a market that is often competing with DHL.
  • A sound business case methodology is required to resolve issues relating to the provision of aircraft capacity – planned and unplanned.
  • All operational contracts.
  • Negotiation and agreement of contracts.
  • Rate and pricing management from aircraft suppliers.
  • Choice of suppliers and approval of invoices.
  • Resolution of claims for loss, damage or service failure.
  • Policies pertaining to the airline
  • To ensure that the assets within the Middle East Air Network are utilized to their maximum whilst thus ensuring that unit cost to core material is driven downwards
  • Co-ordination/communication of all changes to all parties involved.
  • Ensuring adequate resources are provided.
  • To coach/train staff to increase their knowledge of the planning, flight operations and technical departments and associated DHL entities.
  • Deliver performance related data and statistical analysis to Regional Management.
  • Informal daily meeting with your staff.
  • Constantly motivate the group by implementing training programs and updating systems.
  • General communication and delegation.

People Management

  • Staff Structure: Determine the team structure, roles, performance targets and goals at regional level to develop a high performance team that is customer-driven, service focused, cost-conscious and responsive to competing regional and global demands.
  • Recruitment: Recruit new hires according to internal guidelines and procedures
  • Staff Management & Development: Ensure that the team is provided with clear direction and a performance standard expected and is staffed, trained and motivated to meet set targets. Support staff in performance appraisal process and career development within the company in order to develop and maintain a motivated team of competent staff. Identify training needs and opportunities to develop a highly skilled Mobility team.
  • Communication: Develop and promote team spirit and communication channels within the group and countries.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • The jobholder needs a thorough knowledge of DHL together with general transport experience.
  • Able to manage a group of high calibre employees.
  • A flexible working pattern and able to cope with extremely stressful situations at most times.
  • Negotiation skills are a must as the jobholder deals with different parties, all with their own best interest.
  • Common sense is the primary keyword to the job. There are various opportunities to complicate the job when common sense must prevail.
  • Expected years of experience: 10-15 years of experience in the aviation Industry preferred.
  • Educational Qualifications: University Degree or equivalent.
