The HEA is a national body for enhancing learning and teaching in higher education in the UK. We work with institutions across the higher education system to help bring about change in learning and teaching to improve the outcomes for students. We do this by recognising and rewarding excellent teaching, bringing together people and resources and share best practice and by helping influence, shape and implement policy.

The HEA supports staff in higher education throughout their career from those who are new to teaching through to senior management. We offer services in 28 disciplines throughout the UK and have offices in England, Wales and Scotland. Through the partnership management team we work directly with institutions to understand individual circumstances and priorities and bring together resources to meet them.

This post will provide an exciting opportunity to work with service teams, implementing new business process to enable efficient and effective deployment of academic associates across the HEA's range of externally-facing activities.

The Academic Lead will exercise academic leadership, ensuring the professional management of the academic associates' network. You will also provide leadership for service teams, in the rapid and effective deployment of academic associates, meeting budget spend.

You will have the autonomy to increase the range and quality of associates within the database, ensuring it is representative and accessible by the thematic and discipline areas of the HEA and can support bespoke consultancy both nationally and internationally.

This is an opportunity to develop strong relationships with the HEA academic associates and service teams and to devise a standard process for the engagement and appointment of high calibre academic associates. In this vein, you will create an induction process and scheme of work, which inspires and supports effective practice in learning and teaching. You will work with the Head of Health Sciences to plan, coordinate and monitor performance of academic associates and provide feedback to thematic and discipline areas and across the HEA.

To succeed in this role, you will be able to call upon substantial and significant experience of teaching and/or academic staff development in higher education, along with experience of organising and managing remote individuals/teams. As an experienced networker, with an enterprising approach, you will be able to identify and exploit academic enterprise opportunities and you will have experience of quality enhancement/assurance practices, which support excellent learning and teaching. Knowledge of key trends and developments in the enhancement of the student learning experience in higher education and the ability to undertake a high level of personal responsibility are essential.
