The HEA is a national body for enhancing learning and teaching in higher education in the UK. We work with institutions across the higher education system to help bring about change in learning and teaching to improve the outcomes for students. We do this by recognising and rewarding excellent teaching, bringing together people and resources to share best practice and by helping influence, shape and implement policy.

The HEA supports staff in higher education throughout their career from those who are new to teaching through to senior management. We offer services in 28 disciplines throughout the UK and have offices in England, Wales and Scotland. Through our partnership management team we work directly with institutions to understand individual circumstances and priorities and bring together resources to meet them.

This post will provide general management and support to the Head of STEM in the running and coordination of the HEA International Scholarship Scheme and the HEA Doctoral Programme, along with managing and coordinating required advertising and responding to external queries regarding the schemes.

The Academic Development Officer will be heavily involved in the bids process, including coordinating with discipline cluster teams throughout the review of bids process, presenting results to heads of teams, managing the announcement of awards and overseeing payments to successful applicants. The post-holder will also oversee the notification of unsuccessful applicants, providing appropriate feedback in consultation with the Head of STEM.

The Academic Development Officer will be required to manage relationships with successful applicants over the period of the award, ensuring timely and appropriate returns of required reports and updates. This will involve monitoring the outcomes of the awards, regularly reporting progress to the Head of STEM and providing feedback across key areas of the HEA (including the academic practice, teacher excellence and institutional strategy service areas), working with relevant team heads where appropriate.

With the Head of STEM, the Academic Development Officer will arrange the annual Doctoral Induction and Doctoral Conference.

To succeed in this role, it is essential that you have experience of working in higher education, either directly interacting with students through teaching/tutorial roles or in a research group assisting in project development, planning and delivery, as well as managing KPIs and targets. An experienced networker, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to develop and manage productive relationships, coupled with experience of providing information, advice and guidance to individuals and groups and ensuring appropriate signposting. Proven experience of presenting information and data in formats for a range of audiences, including report writing skills, is essential.
